Digital Twin of the EU power system: the TwinEU project
The energy transformation of Europe imposes various challenges on the grids and system operators. By creating the concept of a Digital Twin of the European electricity system, the TwinEU project aims at developing innovative tools and models which will enable a reliable, resilient, and safe operation of the infrastructure while facilitating the deployment of renewable energy sources.
This European Union-funded project brings together 75 partner from 15 different countries, including the most prestigous technical universities, research centers, transmission and distribution system operators and IT service providers. In 3 years, TwinEU will advance on digital twins for:
– cyber-physical grid resilience
– grid management, operation and monitoring
– forecasting and optimal grid and market
– smart coordinated planning of the grid
Based on local digital twins, through a central architecture to orchestrate and facilitate interoperable communication and seamless data exchange, TwinEU is developing a federation of digital twins.
