Energy Performance Comparison and Potential Energy Savings of Chillers using IoT: a case study

The energy performance of chillers is highly dependent on their operating conditions, making single-point measurements insufficient for accurately comparing the energy performance of different chillers or estimating the potential energy savings from chiller replacement. As chilled water production is a significant energy driver in buildings, it is a critical focus for energy service companies, building operators, and owners. Therefore, precise assessment and estimation of energy performance and potential savings are essential, given their influence on the financial viability of a project. This study aims to achieve three objectives through a case study: (1) measure the energy consumption and performance of two chillers operating simultaneously, (2) model the chillers using data obtained from an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, and (3) apply Measurement and Verification (M&V) techniques to compare energy performance and evaluate potential energy savings.

Currently serving as the Strategic Partnership Manager at Daikin Europe NV, overseeing the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Primary responsibilities include managing acquisitions, joint ventures, and operational collaborations, with a focus on strategy development, screening, due diligence, post-merger integration, and ongoing operations. Previously held positions such as Senior Business Development Officer, Consulting Sales Engineer, Technical and Sales Support Specialist, and Deputy Project Manager. Holds a background in industrial engineering and multiple master's degrees in business administration, marketing and commercial management, finance, building installations, and energy efficiency services.
