Optimizing Heating Systems Performance to Reduce Energy Consumption and GHG Emissions in Cold Climates
The present study addresses the increased energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with heating demands in regions with long, cold seasons, found in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Focusing on residential, office, and commercial buildings using various heating systems, the work introduces an Energy Reduction Unit (ERU) designed to decrease energy use and GHG emissions during heating cycles. Preliminary tests and a mathematical model demonstrate that the ERU reduces energy consumption and GHG emissions by 28% to 35% while maintaining necessary heating levels. Its adaptable design allows integration into all existing heating systems without modification. These results emphasize the significant potential of the ERU to improve energy efficiency, lower environmental impacts, and contribute to global sustainability goals.

With over 40 years of mechanical engineering experience contributed to numerous projects, combining theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions that drive client success. Over the past 20 years, my focus has been on energy savings, sustainability, environmental impact, and renewable energy, with an emphasis on reducing GHG emissions. I’ve held roles including Engineering Director, Senior Consultant, Senior Project Manager, Production manager, University lecturing and Design Engineer. I am passionate about creating sustainable solutions, particularly in energy efficiency and sustainability.
